How It Works
When you make the decision to try counseling/psychotherapy, and reach out to me (and possibly a few other clinicians, because I wholeheartedly believe in testing the waters with more than just me) here’s what you can expect: we will set up a session for you to see whether we might be a good therapeutic fit.
What you might consider after our first session is:
― Do I feel like I can be understood?
― Did she help me to comfortably feel emotions?
― Did I gain any new insights or ideas about behavioral changes?
My ideas about how therapy works rest in the relationship that develops between you and me. As I get to know you, therapy becomes a laboratory of sorts, where I can gain first hand knowledge of being in relationship with you. In exploring that together, you will be able to learn from and translate the experiences into your own life. One of my strengths is being able to lead clients to find their own wisdom and insight. The process is highly collaborative and requires both of us. You will experience my active engagement in all stages of the treatment. I always encourage and will elicit feedback about how your work is going, and make needed modifications.
